Oui Oui

After a couple of smooth but long and sleepless flights, we made it to Paris this morning. This was our first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower. It was also only about 30 seconds before C-man started to barf in the shuttle van to the hotel. He had been refusing to eat the entire time, the sleep was of course lousy, and he chose to ride backward-facing in the shuttle van. The combo was just enough to have him hurling in the bag I carried a bunch of my meds in. So much for those pain killers!

But a little bit of rest, some water, and a nice local ham and cheese patisserie sandwich and fresh yogurt later, he had bounced back to his resilient self, and we were off checking out things along the walk to the Eiffel Tower. It just was a super good lesson for us really early on that we are not going to be able to attack this trip relentlessly from dawn until the midnight hours like we usually do. And that's just fine too.

So we explored the cheese shops, and patisseries (chocolate mousse-filled eclairs and warm baguettes and fresh macarons - oh my!), and various cafes along the way.

I can totally understand why people become so enamored with this city. It's a really big city, but everything is unique in its own way, but fits together in a nice similarity too. It's a nice blend of non-box stores and old world charm in a modern life.

And, of course, we made it to the Eiffel Tower. This was the ONE thing C-man really, really wanted to do, and he was thrilled we were going today already.

Considering that we ran on no sleep and were doing a lot of walking in the cold weather, I think we were all really, really happy with the way things turned out.

At the end of the day, after a lovely dinner (which included French onion soup and French fries, although they omitted the French part of that) we found a metro stop to ride back to our hotel. Along the way we even got serenaded. A pretty good end to an incredibly long day.
