It was 9 degrees, 13 on the field level, (we won't talk negative windchill) at gametime. But we were prepared - all bundled up, sitting on insulation, had insulation below our feet, wearing snowpants, and watching it snow. The star quarterback was on the sidelines, and they'd lost lots of games recently.
But it's the Packers. And C-man is totally football obsessed right now. So when we got C-man tickets for the game, and he wasn't all that thrilled about it, I was a little crushed knowing how much work and money it was going to take to then go sit in the cold for something he wasn't excited to do. Beerman assured me that would change at game time.
And he was right. After lunch, we put his brand new Eddie Lacy jersey on (thanks, Grandma and Grandpa) the outside of his jacket instead of the inside. And fans started to high five him. And hug him. (Lacy is new this year, after all, and there weren't any other kids with Lacy jerseys on) And shout, Lacy! And then he learned that after every first down, the crowd did the ref's actions together and then shouted, "First Down!" And then there's the Go Pack Go chant over and over, which is always fun and never gets old.
And then Lacy got the first touchdown.
And then it got good. Really good.
I only sort of understand football. So not having an announcer tell me what is going on with a play by play is a little difficult. I'd been up sick almost the entire night before and was still feeling a bit queasy - actually sort of thankful for the cold air. But in spite of that, it was still fun. Everyone kept their smiling faces on, even though we were physically shaking and chattering toward the end, and enjoyed being a part of the crowd.
And since he was just on the sidelines anyway, I got to hang with my favorite player (Okay, okay, he was just on a stick). But still - good times.
